Ginnie's love of gardening began when she was a small child helping her grandparents in their flower and vegetable gardens. She graduated from Purdue University with a degree in horticulture production and began her career in this field immediately after. She has twelve years experience as a professional grower with special interests in propagation and the growing of herbs and perennials. Ginnie has been with Wischmeier Nursery for three years. Since her arrival here at the nursery, the greenhouses have never looked better. Her vast knowledge and love of plants is evident everywhere you look - from her immaculate greenhouses to her colorful and creative displays. To call her an expert would be an understatement. She is a perennial connoisseur! Ginnie's favorite part of her job is customer service. She loves teaching people about plant care techniques to ensure success in anyone's garden.
Blaine Thompson
Blaine has been in the landscape and lawn care business since working for his grandfather's company when he was a teenager. After college, Blaine began working for a local landscape designer where he not only implemented landscape designs, but also learned various forms of hardscape. It wasn't long before Blaine decided to start a company of his own. He became a regular customer of Wischmeier Nursery during this time, and when an opening became available in the spring of 2011 for a landscape designer, he made the decision to join our team. We are so glad that he did!Blaine is currently Wischmeier Nursery's landscape designer and is also the manager of the landscape department. His vision for this department has given a fresh look to an already thriving area of the business. Blaine's favorite part of the job is interacting with customers and helping them create pleasing environments in their own "backyards". Whether you are in need of a new patio, a winding garden walkway, or simply a fresh look for the front of your home, Blaine has the skills and knowledge to implement a design to suit your needs.
Beth Wetherald
Beth came to Wischmeier's two years ago as a greenhouse worker and has since taken on a new role in the garden center. Beth's love of plants goes back 30 years, and she has designed and implemented many gardens over the years. She has a particular love of roses, and would be happy to "talk shop" with anyone who shares this passion. Beth's background in design has brought a fresh, new look to the garden center. She is constantly researching new trends as well as unique garden décor. Beth, along with Darren Collins, has worked hard to create a place where one can find that special piece, from classical to whimsical, to accent or complete one's garden. One can find Beth most every day in the shop answering general garden questions, placing special orders, and providing numerous other customer services duties as she has become a multi-task expert!
Jerry Wischmeier
Jerry has been working at Wischmeier Nursery since it opened in 1986. At this time, Jerry was a teenager and was hired as a "water boy". Since his first job watering plants, Jerry's role at the nursery has significantly evolved. He started full-time in 1991, and by 1995 was managing the garden center and gift shop and was responsible for all of the ordering for both. Jerry became involved with the Wild Birds Unlimited franchise in 1996, and today runs the only WBU store in the surrounding area. Today, Jerry keeps us running behind the scenes as well by overseeing the bookkeeping, accounting, and payroll from home. Although we miss him around the shop, Wischmeier Nursery couldn't run without his dedication to the business and unsurpassed commitment to excellent customer service.
John Wischmeier
John and his wife Emmylou started Wischmeier Nursery in 1986. Previous to this, John ran a landscape business out of his truck for 17 years while also holding down a full-time job. During this time, John stayed in contact with a family member who owned a large nursery in southern Indiana. More and more, he began to want one of his own. With the help of a landscape client, he obtained the property on which the nursery is now located. Then, finally in 1986, Wischmeier Nursery was born. From its humble beginnings as a small nursery being run out of a trailer, Wischmeier's has expanded to what it is today—this area's premier garden center. With its expansive nursery, well-stocked perennial and annual greenhouses, and wonderful garden center, Wischmeier Nursery has become the place to go for all of one's gardening needs. In addition, John's foresight led him to purchase over 40 acres several years ago on which to grow trees and shrubs which are now mature enough to be sold here at the nursery. John's decision to add a landscape department turned out to be one of his best since this area of the business keeps growing every year. Since the beginning, John Wischmeier has been the heart and soul of Wischmeier Nursery. His personal attention to every detail, no matter how small, is one of the primary factors in the success of the nursery. Even after all these years, one can still find John at the counter talking to customers, overseeing his employees, or even loading and delivery mulch. He loves Wischmeier Nursery as much today as he did when it began. It is a part of his family, and whoever walks through the door is as well!
