Annuals, Herbs, & Roses
During the growing season our Greenhouses are fully stocked and you will find your favorite annuals as well as several new introductions likely to become your new favorite. In addition to our annuals, you’ll find many varieties of vegetables and herbs to add to your culinary gardens.

Be sure to stop by and see the wonderful new plants Wischmeier has to offer the discerning gardener in you.

A new line of annual plants we are awaiting is ‘Hort Couture’ specializing in unique and unusual cultivars of some of our old favorites. “Hort Couture’ can only be found in independent garden centers separating them from the “big box” syndrome plaguing our country.

Impatiens ‘Golden Congo Cockatoo’
Wow! This is something really novel from Hort Couture this rare Impatiens has black lacquered stems, crazy “candy corn” flowers and vibrant variegated foliage. Very cool!

Caladium Taste of Thailand™ 'Plum Sauce'
A fantastic choice. The purple leaves are electric and very sun tolerant. Just a sample from the series ‘Taste of Thailand’ these plants are more heat and sun tolerant.

Alternanthera 'Party Time'
A great accent plant to add to planters or alone making a dramatic impact.

Bay (Laurus nobilis) 2009 Herb of the Year
Sweet Bay can withstand the heat of summer and will grow best when allowed to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Delay bringing your Bay Laurel inside until late fall but don’t subject the plants to any freezing weather conditions.

Once the plants are moved indoors stop applying fertilizer and cut back on the amount of water that you provide over the winter, but don’t let the container completely dry out. Place the Bay Laurel in a relatively cool, well lit area, or use a grow light bulb to supplement the amount of light that the herb plant receives. In early spring gradually allow the Bay Laurel plants to acclimate to the outdoors in the same manner that you would harden off vegetable transplants. The hardening off process can be completed in a shorter timeframe than for vegetable seedlings, but the Bay plants will need sufficient time to adjust to the harsher outdoor growing conditions before they resume their life outdoors.

Roses
This year Wischmeier Nursery will feature ‘Weeks’ roses, these beautiful and substantial plants will be the high light of your garden.

Chihuly®
Floribunda - Showy multi-color In naming a rose to honor America's famous glass artist, Dale Chihuly, it had to have impeccable style & an ever-changing array of flashy colors. This rose has it all! As the sun hits the opening petals, they blush from subtly-striped apricot yellow to dazzling orange & deep red... producing a remarkable display against the deep dark green leaves & mahogany-red growth.

  • Height / Habit: Medium / bushy
  • Bloom / Size: Medium, large double
  • Petal count: Over 25 to 30
  • Parentage: Scentimental X Amalia

  • Hybridizer: Carruth - 2004
  • Comments: Large flowers in cool conditions

Burgundy Iceberg™ 2007 Intro
Floribunda - Purple-red burgundy with a cream reverse Performs exactly like its famous parent, Iceberg, in every way (except color) – same terrific flower production, bushy habit, lovely buds, showy clusters, glossy green foliage and nearly thornless stems.  But ‘Brother Burgundy’ has the painted colors of deep purple-red burgundy & cream that are absolutely nothing like the bland whiteness of ‘Mom’.  Seems to always be in bloom.  Perfect for the landscape - either in mass, standing alone or atop a beautiful tree rose.

  • Height / Habit: Medium-tall/Rounded & bushy
  • Bloom / Size: Medium, double, in clusters
  • Petal count: 20 to 25
  • Parentage: Sport of Brilliant Pink Iceberg
